Living in Austria 2

Due to its rich cultural background, the beautiful landscape and a dynamic and innovative economy Austria is valued as a cultural nation, a holiday destination and a business partner. Not only the diverse leisure possibilities in a secure environment make international managers easily feel at home here.

Education

The Austrian educational system is highly esteemed in Europe and is one key factor for the success of the business location Austria.

Austria's educational system

One of the distinctive features of the Austrian educational system is the extensive co- operation prevailing between the business community and educational institutions. 21 universities of applied sciences as well as 22 universities and 13 private universities maintain close ties to the industrial sector. The dual education system , which combines theoretical and practical teaching, is applied in preparing for careers requiring apprentice training as well as in higher vocational schools. Curriculum and training courses are tailored to the requirements of the business world. Apprentices are professionally trained in companies or gain on-the-job experience. The bottom line results of research and development activities are exploited in a practice-oriented manner within the framework of joint projects carried out by schools working together with the business community, e.g. in theses, dissertations or student enterprises. This two-pronged approach is considered to be exemplary throughout Europe.
In addition to a person’s initial education, the strategy of pursuing ’life-long learning’ and continuing, career-related education is increasingly gaining in importance. In the category of life-long learning, Austria has the highest level of participation throughout the European Union, and one of the top global rankings.

International educational opportunities

But it is not only the wide-ranging choice of leisure activities in a secure environment that makes foreign managers quickly feel at home. Austria also presents a comprehensive choice of schools offering instruction in a variety of languages.

Health

The Austrian health care system is one of the best in the world due to the excellent medical treatments offered. Through substantive investments in medical progress, the local health facilities are equipped with the latest technology. Optimal medical care, needs-based health promotion and systematic prevention are among the priorities of the Austrian health care system.

In Austria, the health care system is largely financed by social security contributions and taxes, to a lesser part also by private sources, such as prescription charges, compulsory personal contributions, per-diem charges for hospital stays or contributions to private health insurance.

The public health care is covered by the social health and accident insurance. Their services include, for example, outpatient and inpatient care, medical rehabilitation, medications, grants for medical aids, health checks and preventive examinations or maternity benefits for birth. Physicians and outpatient departments of hospitals are responsible for outpatient care, in-patient care is carried out in the hospitals.

A large percentage of the self-employed are also covered by compulsory insurance. Children, spouses, registered partners and domestic partners in families with children can be co-insured at no extra charge. Self-insurance is also possible under certain conditions.

Those insured and their family members receive uncomplicated access to public health care services. You can make use of medical care from registered doctors with insurance contracts and from public hospitals. Certain services such as prescription charges, private doctors and private hospitals, some dental services or the daily benefit for hospitalization have to be paid for privately. If a person does not have health insurance, they then bear the full costs of health benefits claimed themselves.
